The NECC family had an impressive turnout at the 2017 Boston Zero Prostate Cancer Run/Walk! The event featured a 5K run/walk, 1 mile walk, Kids’ Superhero Dash for Dad, and virtual Snooze for Dudes program. The weather was perfect, and a great time was had by all who ran or walked for this important cause. We were proud to be a sponsor of the event, and are already looking forward to the 2018 Boston ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk!

Fundraising

ZERO is proud to partner with The Cancer Resource Foundation to end prostate cancer. The funds raised from 2017 Boston ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk – Boston ($95,312!) are invested around the country to provide research for new treatments, free prostate cancer testing, and educate men and families about prostate cancer.

Where are we now?

Here are some alarming statistics, shared from the Zero Website:

Every 20 minutes another American man dies from prostate cancer. That’s a little more than 75 deaths per day and 26,730 this year, enough to fill a baseball stadium.

2.9-infographicOne in eight American men will have prostate cancer during his lifetime. Prostate cancer is the third leading cause of cancer death among American men and is the most commonly diagnosed. The American Cancer Society estimates in its Cancer Facts & Figures 2017 report that 161,360 men will be told they have prostate cancer in 2017. Currently there are nearly 2.9 million American men living with the disease – roughly equal to the population of Chicago.

Early detection and advances in treatment are saving lives. Finding prostate cancer when it is still at an early stage offers the best hope for living cancer free for a long time. The most recent research shows the five-year survival rate for all men with prostate cancer is nearly 100 percent. The relative 10-year survival rate is 98 percent, and 96 percent for 15 years.
